Report #4

Image
I have been thinking about ways to visually connect the background image to the shape surface and started experimenting with cutting printing blocks with the diagramming lines on them to print on the surface of the shapes before folding and gluing. I cut one block for the large sub shapes and another for the lines themselves.  This is how it turned out so far. I think the connection is stronger. If some of these printed shapes were placed in with the solid color painted shapes it could work nicely.  I also started drawing the geometric lines on the background but they are hard to see in this image. I will continue with that too.

Report #3

Report #3 There were several responses to the background drawing for W_P  suggesting it was too flat. Maybe it would benefit by some medium connecting element, maybe string, wire, something that plays on the diagramming concept. Since then I worked more on that background adding dimensionallity to the flat surface.  This helps to connect the 3D piece and the background. I will play with the idea of  adding some actual connecting element but at this moment I'm not sure what that would be. My main goal is to work my way toward bringing the W_P project to fruition. I think I have taken it as for as I can go with it until I'm asked to install it somewhere public. I would like to get the piece  to the point where I can show what that installation would look like if need be, so I have made a commitment to get that done. Something like 150 units need to be build/ painted/clustered and then background wall painting designed and painted. I would like to see this done by the e...

Report #2

Over the last few weeks, I continued experimenting with the drawn background using shapes of different scales and then moving into color tests. Initially I focused on colors to work with the colors of W_P #2. I found that to be limiting (in part because I am not thrilled with that piece and its construction and material issues).  I plan to build  W_P #3 with more neutral colors and fewer variations in texture ad material, so I started playing with color on the background as a stand alone. It  may not compliment the current piece, or maybe it will. I can't say yet. Blues and black and grays Decided to cut out large shapes to experiment with the dimension it might add. It also mad it quicker to try out colors for large shapes by laying over sheets of color. bronze blue brown gold yellow (which I particularly liked so I went on to paint that one). Painted large shapes and printed black lines (and blobs) which was the result of an experiment I ended up liking. Beginning the p...

Report # 1

Tara,   It seemed like it may be helpful for you and a good exercise for me to put together a report on what I have been up to since we talked. So here you go. First, our meeting served as just the kick in the pants I needed and I jumped right in. So thanks. (Note: Text in purple represent action items.)   ·      I finished, at least for now, the W_P sculptural piece that I was working on. Moving forward with this project, I will be limiting materials, focusing on the papers and films that work best and tightening up the files I use to cut the shapes in order to make them a little more precise. This will address some of my frustrations working on this. In the meantime, I am using this piece to experiment with integrating backgrounds (see next bullet). W_P #2 ·      I jumped right into the sketchbook idea (and ordered a new ones).   I did recognize that I use sketch books more than I m...
